Windows blend files do not open correctly on linux

Hi everyone!

I am a win10 user and I am experimenting with cloud instances on google. I am using an Ubuntu instance and I am encountering this weird problem.

I have all these projects that were made on win 10 and work perfectly. Now, to test the ubuntu instance I am trying to open these files there but something is going really wrong. All the external links (if any) are correctly linked (libraries/textures), but it looks like all the locations, rotation, scales and a lot of the modifiers of the objects in the scene have gone crazy, and as a result when I open those files on the ubuntu instance, the scene has all the objects in weird places or with completely crazy shapes… I have never seen anything like this in my 10 years with blender. I tried this with several files, and always got this same result…

Is there some compatibility issue between windows and linux files? Anything else comes to mind?

Hi.
Are you using the exact same Blender versions on Windows and Linux?

Thanks for your help!

tried with 2.9 and 2.83 and 2.82, files were saved on 2.82, but they open fine on windows on any 2.8+ version

You should report the problem to https://developer.blender.org/
But you should share .blend files with developers where they can reproduce the problem. If the problem only occurs with those cloud instances on google, you should describe the exact steps so that they can reproduce the problem.

Thanks I’ll look into that. Unfortunately they’re quite sensitive files so I cannot share them here, and I don’t have a linux workstation to test it “locally”.

I’ll do as you suggested, but if anyone has other ideas, I am keen on hearing them!

You try to create .blend files where the problem can be reproduced. Or you try to explain to developers the best way to reproduce the problem.
It is important that you report the problem, files should behave the same way on any OS.

I know, as I said I’ll try to work out what’s going on with google and I’ll try to see if I can share some file that gives this problem. Unfortunately the latter doesn’t depend on me

What about using the default scene with a slightly modified cube. Does that work correctly? It’s not clear if you tried that or not.

Hey, thanks for you answer!
Yes blender seems to be working just fine… the problem is just when I open old scenes. Those scenes however, work perfectly on windows
