Windows FFMPEG

Um, sorry if this sounds stupid, but how do I add sound to videos with the FFMPEG that was just added to the windows build?:o A mini tutorial would be greatly appreciated!

Add videos?

Sorry if Iā€™m being dumb for not figuring this out, but I may have to just stick with adding the audio in VirtualDubā€¦

Load your audio into the video-sequence editor, choosed ffmpeg from the F10- format panel, when you choose ffmpeg, and Audio panel appears, open that, enable the Multiplex audio button, and choose your audio format from the dropdown below. MPG1(vdeo)/MP3 audio works for me.

EDIT If you want to load MP3ā€™s into the VSE, use the ā€œAudio HDā€ ā€¦ not ā€œAudio Ramā€ (which only loads wav) (I wish the devsā€™s would just get rid of the ā€œaudio ramā€, unless thereā€™s a good reason for having both options that Iā€™m not aware of.

the audio ram tells B to expect a WAV file that it loads as a random access media, not a codec type HD file. Also, RAM is loaded into RAM, and if you change the audio source file, you have to re-open the file (reffresh on an Audio file does not reload the audio :frowning:

LOTR: make sure you click the Speaker icon in the Timeline window header to hear the audio while scrubbing.

Video format AVI XViD works for me, and a compression every 100 (max) frames keeps files small. I use MP3 encoding as well.

Ok, thanks!

Now I understand what you were askingā€¦

ā€œrandom access mediaā€ ā€¦ new term for me unless youā€™re just re-iterating thatā€™s in RAM

Where do you set that?

Thereā€™s Bitrate, Min Rate, Max Rate, Rate, GOP size, Buffersize, Mux Size and Autosplit output.

Mike

Video panel, GOP size (Distance between keyframes).
RAM-yes, as opposed to RLL run-length limited encoding (streaming).

Not that this will add any more information about adding audio using the FFMPEG format but I have noticed that on the Windows build it will encode fine but the resulting video file will not play on Windows Media Player . You can only see it with the VLC player . No big deal (I use VLC myself) but maybe a bug ?

Hmmm. Iā€™ll check that out. That would be crappyā€¦

Itā€™s not very often I regret driving a Mac but the one thing Iā€™ve wanted since discovering Blender is muxing ability (since thereā€™s no useful freeware tool for Mac that will do it - reliably). Iā€™m beginning to think MAC stands for ā€œMaybe after Christmasā€. :frowning:

My WMP is crap (Vista). I wasted a whole day working through all the possibilities, and the only thing my WPM will play is an AVI with the XviD codec. Nothing else. Others are black, or skewed, or random jizzies, or crash WMP/hang. unreal that we have these compatibility issues in 2007. Makes me wish I had a Mac sometimes where there is tighter control over the quality of drivers and such. Maybe Iā€™ll get one after Christmas. In fact, the Rich Content previewer applet, in the friggin explorer pane, will play the video in some formats, but WMP will not.

I really like WMP 11 a lot but Microsoft has otherwise so thoroughly disgusted me that I never go to my windoze partition except to watch DVDs.

Edit: Whatā€™s wrong Papa? You sound like youā€™re getting tired of playing guinea pig for Microsoft. I got my vista-pista upgrade in the mail last week, laughed at it and put it aside.
