[WIP] Another project for Fraunhofer Society

Hi there!

I am currently working on another project for the Fraunhofer Society. This time it’s about the mysterious “E-Grain”, a sort of self-contained, networking, sensory device. However, it pretty much looks like very small cubes (resembling “grain”) which shall, in the future, become nearly as small a human hair is thick.

Most recent picture:

This is the first time I use Yafray in a commercial project and actually the first time I really use Yafray for any project at all. The skylight and dof just seem to fit this topic too well. I would’ve loved to use the internal renderer and some area-lights, but Yafray get’s the job done nicely.

And by the way: does anyone have experience with Yafray and animation? Should I be aware of any pitfalls?

stats: 4.16 min, 944 faces

Some input would be nice.

pretty cool the cube need “character” though add a texture
and the sky is messed up a little in the background

and vertex paint the hair to give it a “random” look like red would be nice to shade it with

Can’t you take a picture on someones head where you see a hair shoot out of the hair and get close to the camera (Digital hair) And then put the cube next to it?

the cube need “character” though

This will be my next task. After all, the cube is what it’s all about, it will become much more detailed next week.

the sky is messed up a little in the background

I’ll add a more photo-studio like stage, so there won’t be a real horizon anymore.

vertex paint the hair to give it a “random” look like red

I’m afraid the hair’s geometry is alittle too simple fo that. I’ll add another layer of texture to it, though, for a more natural look.

I don’t really get what you’re trying to tell me here, but I’ll stay with a clean surface and just a single hair to illustrate the minuscule size of the cube. In the end it’s all about the eGrain, not the hair.

I uploaded a new picture, showing some of the internals of the E-Grain. I also changed the camera-tilt and the scale of the hair-mapping. All in all, it’s starting to come together now. My only concern is rendering-time, but I think I can do something about that.
