Nevermind, after looking up some topology reference wireframes, I scrapped this model.
I started anew and now have a slightly better proportioned model (especially in the stomach) weighing in at ~300 vertices (no arms/head yet). I’ll post some images after I develop it a bit more.
Incidentally, if anyone out there is losing faith in their Blender skills because the mesh is deforming oddly and they can’t fix it, I suggest they try to reduce their vertex count.
The model above has about 1.1 thousand verts and it was getting unworkable. The mesh I’m currently working on has 300 and I made the whole thing in a ridiculously short time (relative to the above model, that is).
I’ll keep working and maybe post again later.
EDIT: I’ve decided to take a more stylistic route. While realism is nice, it can be awfully time-consuming. Hopefully I’ll have some respectable renders soon.
