I’m making this car for the game Racer, and I’m aiming below 10k polys (it’s currently about 4100). I’m quite new to modelling so it’s not perfect
Here’s my 2 latest renders (yafray):
Older pictures can be seen here

how much oversampled r those pics?
btw u could do em a bit smaller, there r not as much details yet.
You mean the anti-aliasing? It’s 4 samples. Those are just a quick renders to show the model, and I’m no expert with rendering yet so…
why are the rear wheels on blocks??
Because I had a photograph acting as a blueprint and it had some tilting, and I didn’t notice it until it was too late… not a big problem, I just have to rotate the car a few degrees when it’s ready enough…
jeez, all of these people newbs, or at least say they are newbs, and are whooping my but with their artwork! jeezo! nice work- did you know that the rear wheels are on blocks? j/k- anyway, nice work- not sure of anything you should change, it’s modeled well
DMBadCat, you are not the only one who feels this about newbies
I hate newbies, they are way too good for me 8)
Just kidding…
Nice work you’ve done there! I just don’t see much of antialiasing there…
You should also try to raise you subsurf value to get rid of those funky straight lines where everything should be smooooth…
I like it!
Here’s a little update (with hdri):
I’ve worked mostly on the front and rear, and i think the front is starting to look a little better now. I’ll have to work on the rear section next. There’s no subsurf applied yet, but i’m thinking of doing a subsurfed model after i get the basic shapes correct. It’s slow progress but there’s no hurry
Nice work.
You need some thickness on the panels though and some seams.
Keep up the good work.

cool stuff, hope to see the game!
You can download the game and find other links for cars and tracks here.

habalux this is looking very cool. Even at low poly you have a lot of detail there. I can’t remember if Racer supports bump mapping, as you could save on verts for the seams using a good bump map.
Keep the updates coming,
Sonix.
thanks for the link - I’ll check it out
Thanks for the comments I just got some new reference photos, so it’s going to be even more like the real thing (I hope). The shape of the headlights is wrong, and I’ll try fix them next.
Well here’s a ingame screenshot
I know the texture isn’t great… but I hope to improve it later on
I have decided to restart this car, because now that I finally found a decent side picture of it, it shows that my model was just too different, and there were some other problems too. This is what I’ve modelled so far:
As you can see it’s far more accurate already than the previous one, some sharp spots seem to be lurking there but I’ll get rid of them
yafray renders from the new model… I forgot to assign a few materials though
Why are there no doors anywhere on this car?
What did you use to make it? Polys, surfaces?
Nice anyhow, but IMHO needs some doors.
I’ll make the doorlines as a texture when I learn to texture a little better and there’s no traditional doors… (picture) the whole middle section is a “door” that rises up when opened…
I made it with polys, the body is below 5000 right now + the wheels are about 650 polys each
it is looking better… it still looks alittle strange to me maybe it does need the door lines or some thing is it just the shell of the car it looks like the in nothing underneth the body on the reflection on the ground…
