I know that one can render just the wireframe cage of a mesh by selecting the “Wire” option under materials. Right now when I do a render the lines (or wires if you prefer) are just 1 pixel which don’t look that great. Is there some way to make the lines/wires thicker?

If you increase the ADD (Glow) factor and the Emit values you can force it to appear slightly thicker than they are.
Try Subsurf on your mesh too, this is how I tend to do my wire frames, it seems to look better.
