Hi everyone! This is the wizard cat!
The inspiration is just a meme of a cat with a wizard hat inside a forest.
The process that I followed to model this is as follows:
1.Sketching
I started doing a rough sketch using grease pencil. This helped me plan the proportions ahead of blocking.
-
Blocking & Booleans
Using simple shapes I blocked out the general shape of the model without going into detail.
-
Sculpting
Then, I sculpted the head details and the paws, and smoothed out the transitions between the body, the arms, the feet and the head.
-
Retopology
The next step in the process is retopology, which means, representing the same volume as the dense mesh that is the result of sculpting, as a more evenly distributed mesh compromised of quads.
-
UV Unwrapping
I created seams on the retopologized mesh so I can UV unwrap properly the mesh. I usually create a side seam that cuts the mesh in half all down from the feet up to the ears, and round seams around the elbow, the neck and thighs.
-
Texturing/Shading
I tried to do a simple quick stylized look for this cat, using just the default round brush that comes with Blender. The staff and the hat use free materials from the BlenderKit addon.
-
Rigging/Posing
To rig the cat I used the Autorig addon, wich allows for a quick and easy to use rig right from the start. I did not bother to polish the weights for this model as it wasn’t going to be animated.
-
Scene setup
The environment consists of a plane with some vegetation assets from BlenderKit. As for the lighting, I used a three point lighting setup, using two area lights on the back and a point light on the front.
This project was really fun to make and I expect to continue creating more stuff on 2025!
