Wood abstract test - *Updated 3/22/2006 now with HDRI

Just a wood procedural test. Of course one could spend a good month getting it perfect. One thing needed to do yet is play with texture warping…

EDIT: Updated the image with the latest realistic render on March 22, 2006.

Rendered with latest Yafray and HDRI. Took like a hour!

Looks very nice. Would like to see the material setting or even a little tutorial for this, if you want to sahre it.

:o niiice. I would love to see the settings for this procedural texture. Is it setup to easily replicate other grains of wood, such as pine, oak, birch, etc. The yafray rendering looks nice, how does it compare to Blender Internal with AO?

I haven’t tried using blender’s AO yet, usually if I think I need AO I figure it’s better to use Yafray to get a more realistic render.

The wood consists of about 6 texture layers on one material, with an empty to direct the mapping of the rings. One thing do improve upon would be to have slight warping of the rings to simulate knot holes and such.

Bump

Updated picture with a Yafray render with HDRI.

Nice. You should repost the old image for comparison. Wish I could make similar textures for my cupboard.

crap I accidentally overwrote the old image on my web host - I have to try and find it.
