For another WIP I need a good wood texture. For that I made some tests and I was surprised that taking a (highres) texture + some nor on the same picture is an quite easy way to get almost/already acceptable results.
Here is a simple demo picture. It’s just a cube which I uv mapped with the wood image. The edges do just contain the continuation of the texture. I added some unrelated stuff on it to make it a bit interesting. (the raptor is from 2.73a demo files - not me

What is your most favourite wood texturing tutorial?
I find the bump on the first plank just a bit too harsh. I had a lot of fun with dinosaur, which at first I thought was a really strange looking banana peel
