Wood Test

For another WIP I need a good wood texture. For that I made some tests and I was surprised that taking a (highres) texture + some nor on the same picture is an quite easy way to get almost/already acceptable results.

Here is a simple demo picture. It’s just a cube which I uv mapped with the wood image. The edges do just contain the continuation of the texture. I added some unrelated stuff on it to make it a bit interesting. (the raptor is from 2.73a demo files - not me

Blender 2.41 / Yafray 0.0.8

What is your most favourite wood texturing tutorial?

Thanks!

the wood is to low res, the specular to strong and makes it look like polished plastic. otherwise it is good

the texture is 2200x1500

mh ok, too bad. how doe sit look with a more high res texture?

claas

I find the bump on the first plank just a bit too harsh. I had a lot of fun with dinosaur, which at first I thought was a really strange looking banana peel

Maybe a bit more spec, but less hard…

dar i did not understood it first. you did not model any bevels onto the wood.
edge highloghts are missing. try that as well.

hmm, dont know what edge highlights are??

there was no bevel - just a cube. now I changed filter to 0.1, reduced nor by 25% and also spec by 50%. I also added a 1-step bevel.

the bevel is not bad but overall I see only a little improvement.

good work, but dump the bevel. It looks wierd with the texture IMHO.
