Wooden crate Test. First texturing, normal mapping, nodes, messing around with lights

Developing a crate for level design.
Messing around first time with what the title says, average work time 90~ mins.
Still learning…
Critics are welcome, motivates me to do it better.

First attempt:

Second attempt with some lights play.

tone down the bump a bit and maybe add some nails or screws. they don’t often glue together crates

Yep you’re right, its kinda boring also.
Here a better version:

If i lower the bump more, it break the whole texture somehow, don’t know why. It just looks awful blurry with lesser bump.
Thanks a lot!

You have a lot of low frequency noise in your normal map which gives the wood a sort of gritty effect. I don’t know what tools you’re using, but maybe consider running your normal source through a highpass filter to remove some of the smaller details.
The last picture looks pretty solid. Good luck with your level design!

I didn’t figured out yesterday how to remove the noise, so i just looked on my normal map node… and was kinda surprised, after duplicating the image texture node, i forgot to change the texture… the normal map node part was with the actual diffuse texture -.-
Now i got better results …

And this is one after using a brightness/contrast node…

Thanks for the tip
