There is a way to simulate a display effect in YafaRay direct lighting mode, since emit surfaces can not emit light in that lighting mode. My trick is to put a mesh light behind a transparent shinydiffuse surface with the texture applied
I think to make a meshlight color to be influenced by a texture shouldn’t be a difficult feature to implement in the future.

In path tracing you can make a textured surface to emit light according to surface colors, using emit parameter in shinydiffuse controls
