Worst radio ads

[mods: please move to off-topic chat…sorry]

So I listen to the radio a lot on the way to work and back – mostly the news and traffic in the morning, traffic again in the afternoon.

Both stations I listen to (WTIC AM 1080 and WAQY FM 102.1) have taken to playing the most god-awful ads for cell phone ringtones. They’re so bad that I haven’t heard either in its entirety; I just lunge desperately for the power button as soon as they start.

The ads:

  1. Starts out with “I just got a new <awful phone sound> from my fr” (that’s all I’ve ever heard)
  2. Starts out with “…everyone silence your cell phones, unless of course you have a ringtone from [company name]”

Completely abhorrent. Does anyone know the company behind these ads, so I can never buy anything that they make?

No, I am sorry, I don’t know the compony. But I’m pretty reluctant to belive that how many ads on the radio and on the TV and in magazines and stuff actually work, nevertheless having so many ads.

Here in England we pay a license fee that funds TV and Radio without adverts.

It’s worth every penny (or cent :))

Programmes and films are so much more enjoyable without interruptions. I remember 10 years ago trying to watch an episode of the Next Generation with all the American ads left in. It was unwatchable

Maybe I’m brain washed?

Thats only for the BBC channels, the the rest have adverts.

You should watch MTV, they have fantastic ringtone ads!

I listen to streaming versions of a couple radio stations [I simply am like 30 feet away [below the tops of hills] from being able to recieve them]… and there’s a couple stupid commercials there too

one car commercial starts off “at [I forget] honda we give you this much space”

and another one has a siren and a countdown for you to click the advertisement banner [you’re supposed to listen using a player which shows a banner at the same time as the commercial] so that you can visit the website or else you will miss a great deal on … I think they’re selling dsl

[there’s also the assumption you’re near your computer, usually we’re on the other side of our house listening on the stereo]

The words “fantastic” and “MTV” in the same sentence? My brain doth not compute!

Meestaplu: As for those radio ads, I have heard the second one you mentioned, but for the life of me I can’t remember the company name. Oh well.

But seriously. Radio ads are the worst.

Radio ads are the worst.

I hate American TV the worst, there are so many ads anymore that the show is worthless to watch, no matter how good. They cut it up into peices.

Hmm…on local TV there was this commercial where a screen is shown (with a window similar to that of MSN Messenger), and two people chatting. While the letters appear on the screen, keyboard tapping can be heard. Guess what they did for the radio version…the exact same thing, with the obvious exception of the images: thirty seconds of keyboard tapping, and then the (phone) company’s name and their special offer.

Yeah, TV ads are pretty bad too. Unfortunately, I don’t see them much because I haven’t really found any shows worth watching. TV sucks in general.

But I still hate radio ads more because they’re so long.

TV sucks in general.

Yeah, but can anyone think of any good shows? I watch anime so much, and I’ve seen so much crappy live-action and cartoon TV shows and I often wonder if anime is the only good type of show around, even though I know that’s not true. The only good shows I can think of that isn’t anime, off hand, is Indinana Jones and … uhh, I don’t know. Saw was surprizingly good. It had depth.

I really like the Drew Carey Show. I’ve also been watching The Simpsons since I was born, but that show went pretty far south. Luckily, they show a lot of the old episodes. Seinfeld is another favorite. Mythbusters! I love that show. I also want to catch that new show It’s Always Sunny in Phillidelphia. Looks like it could be good.

I never really set out to watch any of these shows. Except maybe Drew Carey if I happen to notice it’s 3 o’clock. The others I just turn on if I’m bored and happen to see it.

Back on topic…

I think the WORST ads are for perfume and cologne. It’s like all the art students that couldn’t find work anywhere else ended up working on those. They start out with a quiet night beach, and then zoom into space where a meteor blasts a hole thru a 3-penguin-headed monster, only before landing on a foreign planet with bikini clad women and shirtless guys making out. Then a picture of the perfume is flashed on screen for two seconds along with the crappy tote bag you get for free if you buy it at JC Penny.

Radio… whats that? Does it have something to do wiht music? lol, I don’t listen to the radio, and the ads on TV arn’t too bad remebers the ninja gardner commertial from progressive Anyways, the worst ad ever was our local ISP and cable provider. They advertised a free trip to vegas, but on a 2 minute commertial that played on every channel, every commertial break, and most of the time 2-3 times in a row. Did I say that it sucked? alot? as in I had nightmares from it? They also used the same ad, and just changed the text to give away a free hot tub.

Katsuro

I just heard that 2nd ad on the radio again. It was for Pepsi.

As for TV, I’ll have to agree with you on Mythbusters. I love that one. It’s one of the few shows I’ll watch.

i agree with u about all the shows u like, exept for always sunny in philly cus that just looks dum. and about the simpsons, i dont think that the show is going south cus wen i think of the realy great episodes i always think of the earlier episodes but i also think of a few of the newest ones, by the way. drew carey show rocks but i can never find it on any more, what station is it on and wen is it on,

I hate TV, everything I want to watch like movies can be obtained off the net…

The only 2 shows I really go out of my way to watch are MythBusters and SOS: Coast Guard Rescue.

I’m not sure where you live or what your tv provider is like, but here its on TBS at 3:00 and 3:30 PM EST.

I likes my TiVo…

The radio ad that bugs me the most where I live is some guy advertising for a furniture/rug store. What bothers me the most about it is how cheerful the guy sounds. How cheerful can one be about rugs and furniture?

I also hate how all my local NPR stations claim to be commercial free and have 2week long pledge drives but they still have so many “sponsor messages” that they might as well be commercial supported.
