I’ve lurked around these forums for quite some time, but after two years of getting to know Blender’s tools and quirks I feel it’s about time I sit down and actually make something more impressive than a shiny box.
I wanted to try something at least fairly uncommon for my first project, so I settled on a fantasy airship - inspired by the goblin zeppelins of World of Warcraft.
I intend to go pretty crazy on this, so expect the final image to be mapped, composited, sculpted; I’m basically using it as a crash course for all the cool little areas of 3D I’ve yet to learn.
So, here’s my airship so far - base modeling is almost done. All comments and crits are welcome, so go nuts.
I alway loved the zeppelins in Warcraft 2. Your model looks great, I’d be happy to see more of it. But don’t forget to add some goblins as crew when you are done with the ship.
Maleficus, Photoguy, Amenti: Thanks for the comments. Glad you like it so far.
Ninjitzue: I got the basic design from an old piece of concept art (pre-beta I think), and looking at some screenshots of the final models used in-game, it’s surprising how different it is. Still, I take your point - I’m going to be adding some little extras to it (maybe some rocket boosters?) to give it a bit more uniqueness.
I agree with you on the texturing. I’m thinking that and the background are going to be the biggest challenges.
