I created this reference sheet to help me keep track of my layer settings for projects where I’m generating multiple renders. I’ve simplified it a bit over time, but I use it ALL the time these days, and thought I’d share:
LEFT SIDE: describe what’s in each layer
RIGHT SIDE: for each render, you can note which camera is active, the frames you’re rendering (for an animation), the visible layers, and any other notes you might need.
Here’s a sample of one of my sheets – I tend to scribble, but it works great for my purposes. After a project is wrapped up I like to scan the sheet and include it with the project archive:
