Wrong proportions for image map

See attached.

I have modeled a shoe and want to add a microweave material texture to the main body of the shoe. However, I can’t get the size of the image right as when I apply it to the mesh it is far. far too large. What size should the image file be in pixels?

Hi, scale in Image Mapping, for close shots 1024 or bigger.
