WW1 plane guns

Do anyone know what a weapon that is mounted on a World War 1 plane is called?

prop syncronised machine gun?

Short answer? Machine gun. Long answer? The make and model would depend on the aircraft in question. I believe British aircraft tended to use Vickers machine guns.

You’ll be lucky to find an aircraft in ww1 with a machine gun. The planes were just invented and the planes could only hold the pilot and a very small hand gun.

I’ll gonna have it on the plane you see in this thread https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51942&highlight=. I ain’t sure but they had machine guns on planes like that and they had that kind of plane in the First World War, didn’t they?

Planes holding guns where created near the end of the war ans thats why you dont hear much about them.

Scientist had real trouble with placing a machine gun on a plane as the only convenient place at the time was at the front but that caused problems. The propelor was shredded when the pilot fired. The british covered the propelors with steel but this was dangerous, until the Dutch invented a system that stopped the machine gun at a certain poimt to allow the propellor to pass with out damage.

I dont think it has a name but front mounted machine gun.

Rent a movie called “High Road to China” with Tom Selleck. Pretty cheesy flick, but it had an old biplane in it which had a machine-gun on it that they detached during one of the final scenes… might have some good references in it for ya…

Or check out some of the old biggles adventure books. They where based in WW1 should give you some good refrences of names.
