WWII radios and some artifacts

I tried the world set up with the map node and the scale seems to work
I might try to change the background for something else!

I just added the Catalina / PBY-54 sub hunter 2 post before

I cannot get World Node to scale using Mapping Node, unless I just distort it by changing one axis - with them all set to 1 or all set to 10, or all set to 100 - the image always looks the same. Can you post your node setup please?

Love the Catalina - an iconic aircraft indeed!

I have the file to look at the green sub thing.

Cheers, Clock.

I used this set up and seem to work

but I will test your set up too

here is a home radio around 1939
probably a high end model covering large band of waves !
this radio covered band from 150 KHZ to 100 MHZ
which for the time was high tech !

here is another small home radio Philco 40 - 120 around 1940

here is another WWII radio from around 1942 in US

Here is the Stirling engine the Bristol Hercules II radial engine, 1,375 hp

Note: i did not show all the parts so we could better see the outside of the engine.

this engine did not use the standard Valve train using rocker , spring. timing gear / chain , cam rod
it used instead a sleeve sliding up and down inside the cylinders which required a lot of small gears.

The Wright R-2600 engine doesn’t get mentioned much either even though it’s one of the most important WWII era aircraft engines with over 50,000 produced.

So i guess with the quantity produce in WWII this was a good engine some how!

Hey, nice model - but clarification is required, this engine is not a Stirling engine - it is a sleeve valve engine, two stroker I believe, at least most were at that time.

why do you say it is not for the short stirling
unless i got the wrong engine - hope not!

Specifications (Short Stirling I)

wiki page

engine is

Powerplant: 4 × Bristol Hercules XI 14-cylinder air-cooled sleeve-valve radial piston engines, 1,500 hp (1,100 kW) each

I did the Hercule engine that is what I found on other internet site for the short stirling

and as I said this engine was used on a lot of air plane
50 000 made !

it is with sleeves inside each cylinder and not using the Cam shafts and rods system like the Merlin engine

to me it looks like a more complicated mechanical system but if there was 50 000 made - not certain why if it was really a good engine or just what was available quickly !

Hey, If your not a gearhead or mechanic or engine re/builder then I can see how you could be mis-informed. A Stirling engine is quite different than a Sleeve Valve engine; Here is a more detailed article
Here is the company, in the state where I live, which produces them.

wait I did not do a sterling engine !
I did an airplane model form WWII call the short Sterling
which use an engine call the Hercule model

so nothing to do with a sterling engine at all !

Continuing the discussion from WWII radios and some artifacts:

Looks great- How did you go about putting the text above the dials? Image texture of the word and mix it in with the other material it’s on? Shrink wrap modifier?

for the meters
just added text over black bottom as close as possible
and made it emission to better see it

it takes time and higher verts count but look better
