Character modeling is new to me, and this is my first low-poly character attempt, and so the topology is probably absolutely terrible. So please, give me some ideas at what to improve and how to improve it, and I’ll hopefully be able to follow them through!
Thanks for the comments. I started working on the torso.
Sorry for the wireframe being so messed up, but I upgraded to Blender 2.44 and suddenly the “Shear” feature didn’t work - which is how I managed to avoid z-buffer flickering from the wireframe duplicate - at all, and the hotkey was changed.
Anyway, I don’t think I’ll be animating this character. Mostly because I’d then have to learn not only animation but rigging as well. I’m sticking to modeling at the moment. I might try to skin and texture it though (if I manage to learn how, that is).
Your loops should portray? (for want of a better word) a sense of the muscularity (again perhaps not the best word) of the character. Have them flow around the muscles to bring out a sense of definition.
Something a little more like in this drawing ( keep in mind this is just a quick sketch and you could probably do much bettter)
