X -mirror weight painting isnt working.

hmmmm.
im working on this rig and once i got around to weight painting, the x mirror wont work!:frowning:
i have the naming system right, at least i think i do. i have it like toe.L and toe.R
the x mirror is enabled when i weight paint, however if i paint a part of it, the mirrored bone’s vert group is created like it should be, however the values wont be mirrored
here’s the .blend:

(sorry, you’ll have to copy and paste the link)
thx in advance

I’m kind of a noob, but I think I can help with this one. The same thing just happened to me recently.

First, make sure your model is symetrical. If you made it symetrical by duplicating the vertices then mirroring it, it may still not work. In that case, delete one half of the model and apply the mirror modifier. Then Blender will recognize it as symetrical.

To test to see if its symetrical, turn on the X-Axis Mirror button in the Editing(F9) Tab. If its symetrical, then when you move a vertice on one side, the corresponding vertice on the other side will move as well.

Now select your mesh, and in object mode press Control + A to “apply scale and rotation” to your mesh. Then select your armature and once again press Control + A in either object mode or pose mode.

At that point the X-Mirror weight painting should work. Good luck and I hope I was able to help.
