Yafray Basic Settings

Does anyone know where I can find a walk through of setting up a VERY basic scene using Yafray as the renderer. Essentially I don’t want GI or any of the very advanced features. I’m trying to use yafray just for raytrace rendering and get a fast render. Any help or direction is appreciated. I did do a quick search but didn’t come up with much.

Thanks in advance.

Brian

Here are 2 I did.
Maybe this will help you?
I understand that your not looking to do
anything complicated.
Just check them out and reply
so we can chat about settings and stuff.

Hi JDA,

If you have time, will and oppertunity. Would you be so kind to render and post that last image with the lowest test settings possible (and include them), for us newbies to know how it will look like before you go for the high quality settings that takes so much time.

Thanks anyway.

I also have an issue. I found that YafRay won’t render things that the particle effect has been added to. Is this going to be fixed in later releases or anything?

I don’t think blender particle effects are supported yet.
But don’t quote me on that.
Best thing to do ask the guys over at the YafRay messageboard.

I can do that.

In that first image I posted with the 9 spheres
I used SkyDome and 1 Blender “Sun” lamp.

Quality = Best

Quality = Low

eeshlo suggested to me that one way to get rid
of more of the noise and make it look clean
was to turn up the AA Passes and AA Samples and
lower the Thr or AA Threshold.

The other was to use Full instead of SkyDome.
The reasons to use Full are many.

If you want a fast render using Sky Dome just to see what your scene
looks like then set AA Passes and AA Samples to 2 , set Quality to Low
and leave all others at default.

That’s the best I can do on that
because I’m still learning this stuff myself.

I’ll post more later.

Here is the Best Quality version.
