Hello!
I use Yafray for the second time, trying to do a little pictures… realistic…
So i use Blender 2.23 and Yable. After have done a lot of tests, i have a little trouble with my glass effect.
Look at the image below, a black surface appears on Tux, and i don’t know why, i have a blue sky…
So if you have an idea???
Second thing, how to set my material to have caustics WITH hemi light ? because that makes a comics lightning effect…
Thanks
For the black areas, the only thing I could say is trying moving up the ray bounces from 5 to 8 or maybe 10. About the hemi light, either you need to add a photon light to your scene and shoot it at the penguin, or use the path light (only eeshlo could tell you the best solution). Note that the pathlight usually takes significantly longer than a hemi light. Also make sure that your penguin has a caustic IOR assigned to it.
I like the picture so far! Very realistic-looking, and pleasantly simple.
lu’ metal
Pourtant sur les premiers rendus tu n’avais pas les mêmes problèmes c’est bizarre ?
Hey Metal
don’t worry you’re gonna find why there is such a problem
Yes, that was in fact my IOR which was very too hight.
1.66 against 1.33 now.
I try to set an atmosphere very soft, as an evening sun lightning.
My Glass effect isn’t ok yet, but i work on it.
Abnd now:
Caustics + Hemi light + Softlight + Gimp
Just a correction of contrast.
Perhaps a little too dull… but i like this effect. and you ?
Excellent! That looks much better. The only thing is that the postprocessed version looks a little too aliased. Maybe try rendering large, then GIMPing, then shrinking with a Lanczos filter to reduce those edges.
Excellent, at least somebody can get the refraction something like correct, unlike one or two of my efforts.

i’m quite new to blender so i have a question. how did you get the reflections on the penguin.
Thanks a lot, i am currently working on this image to get a better glass effect on yellow meshes.
I am glade to have some enthousiastics comments. Thanks again.
he use yafray renderer
Nice glass. But whar ar the strange shadow artifacts to the right?
Metal3d: amazing… Would you mind sharing the detail of the material settings?? That seems the be the best kept secret of yable/yafray… I suppose it’s somewhere, but I have not found the info anywhere yet (or maybe I should go to the yafray site and beg there…).
If you can, thanks!
Cheers.

i like the coffee mug, I like the linux magazine, and I ilke the drawing… I also like the design on the penguin there… but… I hate glass objects. in general
but that’s not your fault of course

ummm i just have a question: is the penguin supposed to be metal or glass? To me it looks like it is very reflective metal. more transparency would be needed IMHO for a glass effect…
anyways, nice work!

every thing except the glass penguin looks way tooo real, it’s great keep improving it, i’d say the glass looks to shiny, too unreal
I have used Yafray with Yable interface on Blender, i but a RGB value reflection to 0.254 and that’s all
@+
Kool, kool… kool!
Only one comment, add transparency if the penguin is made of glass :D…
Yes, so … i use a complete transparency material here… arrrgggg no, in fact i wanted a colored glass, balck for the body and yellow for the nozzle and legs…
I will work on it…
