Yafray Help

I have seen some really interesting pictures that have come out of yafray. I am unable to get the lights from my original scene to light the scene when they are rendered in Yafray. How could I resolve this?

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could write a short tutorial on Yafray…

diddnt someone say something about this in another thread? i think the answer was something about canking the emmitance way up, cos it measures it in candelas or something. . .

that too, but I think you must select and edit every light individually from the Yable light editor. Try using a hemilight first to see how the materials look, then crank up the lights’ power incrementally

Yes but how? How is it that you place custom lights for yafray?

you don’t add custom lights…you must use blender’s lamps (or even empties - not sure about area lighting). Then select one, go to light editor in yable and click “get selected”. Then you can edit its properties.

p.s. if you use a hemilight you don’t really need other lights…it lights up the scene uniformly (like a blender dupliverted icosphere with lamps)

Thank you adyus (love the signature btw) I have tried rendering without the hemilight AND using the method for lights that you have described, but when i render my scene, the objects are not lighted. Any suggestions?

Also, in the spotlight options I noticed the “Select Target” button. what does this button do? :o

Thanks guys!

hmmm…if you tried the hemilight and it didn’t work, it means you have your objects in a closed box or the hemilight is too low (a normal value would be around 2.50). Try deleting the roof or one or more walls of your room to get illumination with the hemilight

you will find a set target button also on arealights and photon lights. Ever tracked a blender spotlight to an empty? If you did, just select the empty and hit set target and confirm. The set target button defines which way the spotlight is pointing. Until now Yable can’t import blender’s spotlight direction

Glad I could help

OR, why dont you just open the xml file in a text editor and adjust the light settings from there. its not that hard, the attribute-names are rather logical. %|

Perhaps I was not clear. I AM able to render fine with a hemilight :). The problem occurs when I attempt to render a scene using other lights instead of the hemilight.(IE spotlights) When I view the rendered picturem, it is black. I have played around with the power of the lights and have made sure the lights point in the corrent direction but my scene still comes out black.

Thanks a lot for your help thus far!
