hi all,
i’m currently using yafray, and pretty happy with it so far…
Does anyone think it’s worth spending a bit of time getting lightflow or virtualight working? are there any significant improvements (speed, realism etc)
cheers

Well, this should be in Q&A forum, so don’t be surprised if one of the mods locks the post.
For an answer, YAFray is the current raytracer of choice, as it has a close connection to blender and a lot of development has been done, based on blender, with exporters, etc.
As for Lightflow, it is a great renderer, I have used it, but there is no further development being done with it. So on that basis, I would not even worry about using Lightflow.
Virtualight is also another decent renderer, I have used it as well. I personallythink that YAFray is better. Though I have not used Virtualight for some time now.

yes, wasn’t sure about the forum! but it was more to start a bit of discussion than a really specific question, so I went for “news n chat” in the end!
thanks for info!
I only recently used a raytracer, which was yafray, because it was easy, and a lot of people seem to like it. The other one that I see people talk about alot, and have seen some pretty amazing animations done by, is POVray. It seems like it is probably about ten times harder to use than yafray though.
one day ill take the plunge and try and set up someones GUI for yafray, im a little sick of doing it in blender and using the command prompt window…
i use yafray simply because i did not know of any others. i had seen some nice renders, so i just went for it. all good.
