i painted this dog, for $100 but the lady gave me $150 coz shes nice :smiley:

sorry bad scan, it didn’t fit in the scanner.

it was painted using guache, which is a water based paint and can work similarly to either acrylic, or watercolour (depending how diluted it is) and can be re-wet and redisolved once dry. (although the paper absorbs it so thats only true for the paint in your pallet)

anyway it was fun and good money, i have a few more people interested in artworks now because of it so hopefully i can raise a bit of cash.

A good business tactic would have been to give her back the $50. Word would get around and that would be a big selling point.

I blew leaves from a guy’s yard one time, and my dad, who set it up, agreed on $20 for two hours with him. At the end of the two hours he payed me $40. I gave him back $20, and based on that I got half a dozen other clients.

Of course, they’ve put me on hold until Summer because everyone involved realized that blown leaves would come back and I would need a leaf vaccum, which means I would have to get a large truck that I couldn’t afford and a leaf cage.

yeah actually it is really good advice to give the money back, but i think its slightly late.

and the transaction was all done through mum so i got the money in an envelope my mum didn’t even know how much was their, so yeah.

but its funny coz the lady got it framed and took it to work to show my mum, and she was like REALLY REALLY pleased with it, i kinda want to see her face myself because most of the pleasure i would get from a painting is seeing people enjoy it, and be happy.

money isn’t that important to me but i really really do love the reaction.

p.s. who here thinks they would enter a weekend traditional challenge.

you’d have one weekend to make any traditional REAL (not CG) artwork.

e.g. pencil, paint, pen, charcoal, collage… whatever.!

and you’d scan it in or take a photo, and those people who wished could photoshop/gimp the image even further to add those final touches like glowing and stuff

then people upload the pics for voting, if they were photoshoped at all, the original scans and PSed images would need to be both there.

(i would of course could provide all the webspace for the entrants through a PHP gallery)

how does that saound.

sometimes its nice to get off the computer and paint and draw, and there are a lot of tallented people here :smiley:

well actually i would think we havea week long challenge.

we set a certain size (or range of sizes) on the paper or whatever, this would kinda mena people wouldn’t do one the size of a wall and compare it to one the size of a postage stamp.

maybe between A5-A4 kinda size

and the person would need to create 3 works in a series, any media they want, and it would need to tell a story of some kind, well not tell a story necisarily, it could jsut be three related objects, like an apple and orange and a pear for example.

but i did a kinda series like this once on A4 paper, it was traditional collage but with weird materials and a mixture of photos also.

and just so i don’t freak you out, these three took about 3 hours total, they are not the best but when you had 20x A4 sized images on any subject to do, 1x A1 painting/drawing and 3x A2, as well as a scale model a computer animation, and a workbook including research concepts development, an essay, and 30 hours of life drawing. and you only have 4 weeks. well you don’t have much time LOL.

personally i’d like to leave it open for 1 week so that people can fit it around their scheduals.

however if we also put a time limit on it, such as 8 hours max or somthing. it would of course be an honesty system.

perhaps 2 or 3 images in a series of your personal choice and creativity. this way we don’t stop people from potentially creating concept art for an animation they really want to do, or any other subject they are interested in.

if people are truly keen i will organise one for next week and provide the gallery webspace for it.
