Can you tell me? Is it the shadow or what? You guys are acting like this is the holy grail of 3D art. So can some just tell me instead of just saying i am missing something, I know i am missing something cause i don’t understand it.

There’s no secret; it’s just a joke that got a bit out of hand. One of the Blender gurus decided to post the most ridiculously easy thing he could make to the Finished forum, and then act like an “L33T” newbie who thought it was actually good. So then the rest of us decided to play along, and we all started fawning all over it and making the most idiotic suggestions for “improvements” that we could think of (envmap, bevel, rigging, lipsync, UV mapping, etc–all for a stupid cube). Anywho, I thought the whole thing was hilarious–if maybe a little not-nice to Blender newbies.
At last my point has been made.
The sphere and the cube are indeed rubbish, and a waste of space.
I didnt do this for a joke or because i thought it was good, i did this to illustrate the utter pointlessness of the other topic. Please could an administrator delete this and the other topics so then we can carry on being a respectable community.
Actually, your original post still looks like more participation to me. It’s not easy to parody a parody…

Actually, many newbies these days are making much nicer things than this sphere… (eg. see that other topic with the alien)
And by the way, you should have created a chrome sphere with a checkered plane instead, much more l33t. 
WOW, I am speechless. That is the best blend I’ve ever seen. Gotta love the lighting…BUT REALLY, WHAT IS WITH ALL OF THE STUPID CUBES, AND SPHERES WITH LIGHTING??? Oops, sorry. hehe. No really, what’s with them?
