Yet another F1 WIP

Here’s another newbie F1 WIP… Ring brakes, hubless wheels, turbine powered, and I swear I was working on this three weeks ago!!!
No materials, bad lighting, and several parts are not yet done (the jet-exhaust, brake calipers, misc hoses, nuts and bolts, etc… I tried radiosity, but that is going to take some more tutorial browsing before there is something worth posting.
–EDIT__
Did a bit more on the model, it now has a front and a back, plus a bit more detail in between. I’m now on to the detail-work, brake calipers, radiators, thrust reversers  and other performance enhancing stuff.
Tear it up all!!

And lastly, the noob-much-pleased-with-hisself Yaffed version:

looks pretty cool… nice details… i know its still wip, but id love to see spotlights and shadows and a ground for your wip pics =)

Nice job

Logik_Guy

damn, thats nice. i hate all these “new newbies” that are so good at this stuff.

Update—
I’ve finally had a chance to work on the model a bit, the pics at the top are the updates. Time for detail work, and then to start the materials/texturing process.

When working with Yafray, I ran into a couple of questions. The chain is a path-following object, based on the tank tread tutorial. This works great, except for Yafray export, or for doing radiosity in blender, where the chain reverts back to a single-link. Is there any way around this, or am I gonna have to hand duplicate every link?

Similarly, I make heavy use of subsurfs with the model, and they don’t seem to make it to either yafray or radiosity. I’ve done a basic search here on Elysiun but haven’t seen much. Is there a way to get a blender subsurface to properly render in Yafray/blender’s native radiosity calculator?

Cheers, JJ

whatever you do, DON’T duplicate every link. That happened to me (go here, see gallery, hearts) and I must tell you it’s a nightmare. Try converting the single parent link to a mesh (alt-c or ctrl-c, forgot which) . Also, enable autosmoothing on the wheels. Great modeling, now let me see you UV texture this baby

Thanks for the crits all, I need a bit more modelling touch-up and then it is time to make it look good. I’ve tried converting the parent curve to a mesh, but that didn’t duplicate the links roperly. I’m hoping this can be fixed, as I’d rather not hand dupe each chain segment at 78 links apiece!!

Thanks again, Snooch

Great car! Need to add good textures and it’ll be almost perfect!
