I finally registered an account so I can share my current WIP. I have plans to dress and rig this model, along with another character, to be used in a short animation. So, hello everybody, and here you go:
Edit:
Just signed up for a youtube account. People may freak with the nudity… Anyway, here’s a 360 degree animation (while it lasts?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDJ4ZlsN93A
The modeling looks great, keep it up and i’ll pop in later. Perhaps she has a bit big forhead and her eyes are very wide. But I guess you are doin it anime style.
I’ve been trying to make her some hair with the particle system. After a couple of days tinkering around, I’ve come up with the attached image.
Some comments on particle hair: It seems that I needed many guide curves and some force fields - so many that it becomes very confusing trying to manage them all, and also have them all work together to style the hair the way I want. I’m still not happy with the result (please ignore the few fly away curls behind her head ), or the increased render times. I tried breaking the hair mesh into smaller pieces, but it didn’t really make things easier. I think, for the hair I was hoping for, I would need to create quite an elaborate network of hair patches and guide curves. After that, I have no idea how I’ll ever animate it!
Anyway, unless somebody here can open my eyes to the wonderful world of manageable particle hair, I think I’m going to try something else. Although, I don’t know what.
PS: This is a perspective shot. Do her eyes look big enough?
I’m trying a hybrid method for her hair right now. I’ve created polygon hair strips, but at the base of each is a hair particle emitter. Both the strip and the emitter is affected by a curve. I’m hoping that this method will make the hair more manageable, and hopefully cut down the render times.
The first image is the start of the first layer. Each particle emitter is emitting only 50 hairs. For the second image, I copy-pasted the first layer a few times to show how several layers would look. The strips need some tweaking so they fit around the head better.
Would anyone like to comment on how it looks so far? Keep in mind I may be able to tweak the strips to hide their hard edges.
