Basically what I need is a good composing software. I have stuff that works decently well, BUT IF ANYONE KNOWS a good tool for me to use, It can cost money, I am saving anyways, I can invest.

Thanks!,
Micah

Look here.

 I appreciate the effort but compositing software is very different thing than composing software
Trust me I have already googled several times also.

@Social I think he’s looking for composing software, not compositing.

@Micah702 I use Cubase 5- it’s $500, but I think it’s worth it depending on what you want to do with it.

Cubase is good if you want to do both recording live instruments and composing with virtual instruments. The VST instruments can sound a little cheesy at times, but I kinda like it because some of the music I write is inspired by pieces written for the N64. I don’t know if you know much about audio recording (for vocals and capturing real instruments), but you’ll need an audio interface to connect a mic to the computer.

If you just want to compose, there is the Halion Symphonic Orchestra- I think its around $200. I’m thinking about getting it myself for composing my own video game music- it has samples of real orchestra instruments. It’s lacking a harp sound, but it looks decent enough.

I’m sure there’s some cheaper or even free software geared towards composing, and there’s a lot of other alternatives besides Cubase- that’s just what I use. I started out with audio engineering myself before I discovered and got into Blender and game creation. Good luck!

Haha - yea, I meant composing.

That’s what happens when you think about CG.

Great site to look for alternatives if you have a basic idea what you want but the tool lacks features or you lack the budget

Thanks guys, and I already have a software. What it does is you hook up a keyboard (which comes with it) to the computer, and you can play tons of instruments, sounds, FX, etc… even you some decent audio loops. My problem is that it is slow, laggy, and I dislike both the interface and voice recording method. Maybe I should reinstall and troubleshoot, and even buy a new Mic before I try investing in something new. What do you think? It’s called M-Audio KeyStudio Session 49i. If I do get something new, I want it to be this same method, hooking up a keyboard to the computer type thing.

Especially since I have had 10 years of piano experience and lessons, so I can do about anything with a keyboard ;D
