Zippo's_INTERNAL

i rendered this zippo in cycles but it was such a slow processes i wasn’t able to get a very final looking comp so i redid it in the internal render engine

Be sure to tell me what you think!

from what I know the inside of the lighter is smooth and the outside is stamped from what I have seen.
more shiny internals…

the inside isn’t smooth its very dirty, but i didn’t want to texture the inside due to laziness, the real challenge was the modelling of the chimney due to the holes, and yeah i know the insert should have more textures but its would be a fairly complicated thing to do as it would involve reflection variation and a high definition bump map which just makes stuff more complicated so i thought i would just go for the chrome look

here is a wire frame of the cool topology

once again i would really appreciate some feedback

Great topology and modeling!

Chrome out and maybe distress the internals, since they look powder coated, and the outside texture looks a bit like felt. Andrew Price has some awesome tutorials on adding scratches to things - the one that comes to mind is his grenade tutorial.

Otherwise, awesome Zippo.

That’s some really nice topology! I think if you went to the extra effort and really put some love into the textures you’ll get a sweet result.

thanks alot il take all of that into consideration

but what do you mean when you say “chrome out and distress the internals”

Here i’ve made some slight modifications

Hate to be repetitive, but that is indeed some nice clean topology.

I think what he meant was to give the inside a chrome material instead of what looks like stainless steel and to make it look used. It’s a little too perfect looking.

I would also add that the outer container needs some thickness. It’s so paper thin that it takes away from the realism.

Really nice so far.

good suggestions

could you give me some tips on making the chrome look more used?

I have increased the thickness from 0.005 to 0.01 but it is hard to tell due to reflections
