Zooming in makes texture painting stop working

As the title says, when you zoom in too far in the 3d viewport texture painting stops working.

I’m also wondering if you want to paint in the UV Editor/Image Editor, is it possible to view the Roughness Map, but PAINT onto the Diffuse map? I want to paint my Smooth sections a light grey metal color, but can’t paint it accurately if I can’t see the Roughness map.

I seem to have fixed the issue with not being able to paint while zoomed in, by switching to orthographic view when I’m zoomed in close. However the second part of my question is driving me crazy, cant seem to find a workaround.
