Building house blender tutorial - added two new tutorials!!!

Hello Charlie,
Thank you! Please be sure and get permissions from Bruxy because they belong to him.
Thanks again for doing that.
Gerald

As a result of these video tutorials, is there anyone out there who has modelled and rendered their own version of a house or building? Please post the results here.
Thanks

i have received numerous requests to upload so i have.
bruxy has not been able (or hasnt) contacted me yet so until now i must assume this is okay, seen as though he is giving them off of ftp, why not a faster sever?

Hello all,
First posting here.
Just to say thanks to Gerald for the hosting and Bruxy for making available those fantastic tuts.
I’m in the middle of such a project and I was hitting a wall. I knew that I had to modify my approach and these hit the nail on the wall.
I’ll send a pic of my project (not now, please don’t ask !)

Marc

charliemcf, gerard,

Thanks for hosting the files. Yes, I am ok with that. Let me make another version with some contact information so they do not get lost wherewer they might end up on the web. I’ll send you a link when done.

LarryPhillips, thanks for the link, I will try it. I was looking at a service where I can stream them, I looked at youtube and msn, but the resolution is still poor.
Sorry guys for cancelling my domain, I had couple of reasons for it, besides the hosting was not so reliable… I was getting compains that the video woudl not download completely. So I decided to move it somewhere else.

I am now busy making a DVD version of it. Originally it was done on VirtualDub but I’d have to use a differet soft now, so I has to re-do the whole project.
They are re-mastered from the original resolution in DVD quality, eddited out a bit and I am also adding few slides with overview at the start and a review with all the shortcuts uses through the tutorial at the end.
I have part 1&2 done, I am finishing part 3 now. Then I’d need to figure out how to fit it on DVD and I will be done.

Anyone interested in trying them out and giving some feedback before start offering them?

Bruxy

gurus,
I am not able todownload the first two. Anyone else with the same problems?
chela69

filefront also does streaming if you want me to check that option?
its better resolution than google/youtube (i tihnk) so a bit better quality, although not anywhere near as good as the download.

try a test of it here:

http://static.filefront.com/ffv6/video/fullpage.php?v=551708&autorun=true

any thoughts?

//charlie

Thanks, but as you say, the quality is not much of use. Besides, looks like there are some issues with filefront (Chela69)? Is the service reliable?

How about the http://www.vimeo.com/ site? The resolution looks stunning. I could upload even higher res than in the file. And they say you can download the original file…What is the caviat? Is this service stable? How long will they keep the file? Anyone good/bad experience?

I am also almost ready with the DVD, but not sure if there will be interest. I will see. Will keep it as an option - does not cost me anything…except couple of days time that I spent preparing the DVD .
I have revised the content (and I will shortly make it available on the web, once I find a server that is fit for purpose), and I have added some extra footage for the DVD version, if there will ever be anyone interested.
Torrent might be an option as well, but not sure hoe reliable will that be, if there will be nobody seeding the file…and I als do not know how to publish the tracker. Any thoughts?

Bruxy

torrents will probably not work, unless people decide to seed them, and stay seeds.
i think vimeo is also a good option, id try that as well

lastly i dont think the “issues” are really issues.
filefront is one of the biggest sites on the web, if there is a problem it is most likely your isp throttling downloads from that site because they are cheap.
any website which has over 48TB of files knows what they’re doing

Ok, here we go!
I have uploaded the remastered part 1 to vimeo.
The link is on my site, so check it out on http://blender-house.spaces.live.com
I have revised the content. I madce NO COMPROMISES this time: I and added outline in the beginning and summary at the end. And I have saved the video in 800x600 resolution and less compression!
It is a sub-HD quality and that’s why I guess the server unfortunatelly does not allow you to switch to HD and stream it in the full resolution. BUT THERE IS A LINK TO THE FULL VERSION on the site. But please be aware that the file now has 330 MB… I said, I made no compromises. Last time I did that I had a hard time squeezing 1 hour video on a reasonable size while keeping acceptable quality.

EDIT: I have just learned that on VIMEO they consider HD everything ABOVE 800. And I am EXACTLY on 800. I will try tro add 2 pixels, render it again and re-post. Will see how that goes. They have a weekly limit for uploading, so we shall see if they allow me to do that.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I read that anything above 848 horizontal resolution will get the HD treatment, but Vimeo also drops frames to convert it to 24fps if not already so (due to present average computer power and flash’s sloppy frame dropping). But who knows for sure, it might be anything over 800 now. It’s an “undocumented” feature for less than true HD res uploads and I think they are still working things out.

But none if this should matter much to you for screencasts. The gripes in the threads above are mainly about noticable skipping during fast pans with video shot and uploaded as 30fps. Shouldn’t be noticable in a screencast no matter what the original framerate.

The tutorial you’ve uploaded looks very good full screen, and the download looks even better at full screen -and downloaded at nearly 1mb/sec! I wouldn’t bother re-uploading a higher res version. You’ve high (enough) res streaming and file download, and lower res streaming / smaller file downloads for the bandwidth impaired. That should be good enough, in my opinion.

Anyway, hey the tutorials are really good. I had downloaded the (smaller) files from the ftp site a few days ago. Some issues with the microphone but it didn’t bother me too much. The main thing is I could see and hear everything well enough and I learned quite a few great tips (like the snapping and retopo methods). Now I’ll be able to re-watch them in higher res (easier on the eyes -I’ll have to watch them at least three times for all the info to sink in). Excellent!

Thanks for all the time and trouble you’ve gone through to get these recorded and out to the community. It will be appreciated by many, no doubt.
.

Part 2 is on VIMEO.
The Part 3 is ready as well, just need to wait 1 week to recover my vimeo upload limit.
I have increased a volume a bit, I did the same for part 1, I will re-upload the updated version once I am done with the remaining parts.

It is on http://blender-house.spaces.live.com/

I gave up on the HD version. They have increased the minimum size again. The full version is available for download on the vimeo site (you have to scroll all the way down and get it in the right corner. It is 800x600 - without resizing.

Any chance for downloadable (via http) version of your tutorial? (like .avi files archived with 7zip)

They are downloadable. From the vimeo site. Check at the bottom of the right column.

It says http://blenderartists.org/assets/images/nipples/nipple_9_bbbbbb.gif
MP4

Download Quicktime version
800x600, 341.17MB
Part 1&2 are available there now, Part 3 will be there over the weekend.
Cheers

Finaly, part 3 is on Vimeo as well.
Next week I will re-upload part 1 with adjusted volume, but other than that, I consider the migration done :).
I have also done few design changes to the site http://blender-house.spaces.live.com/.
Thanks to Kernon for his feedback.

Note: To download the source videos you have to be logged into Vimeo, and you will need to use Firefox or Opera (IE7 won’t let you save properly -they are working on this prob).

Hey the website looks fantastic!

But why do you have fullscreen mode disabled on the vimeo players (just curious)?

Great work! Do you plan on doing more tutorials of any sort?
