I remember using Autocad in MSDos with 8m (megas!) of ram. 8 megas was pretty mean for a 386 in those days. I also upgraded to 16 M and the shop said I was mad!

Quad view

As for quad view well you can make your own workspaces, and use different shading options for each view.

If you want to lock the views rotations for those windows there is this little addon by Fweeb that lets you do it.

Locking 3D View

I did a little looking into this. It turns out that the Python API actually already provides you with the ability to do this. It’s just not exposed in the UI. So I wrote a little add-on that remedies that particular problem. Enable the add-on and there will be a check box labeled “Lock View Rotation” at the bottom of the View panel of the 3D View’s Properties region (the one that shows when you press N).
