Maybe I am misunderstanding something here but What does ctrl + space + del do differently to ctrl + space in blender?
I’ve just tried it out and I’m not even convinced del is even doing anything other than interrupting the input and tricking blender into thinking you’ve pressed ctrl+space again.
Default hotkeys are Ctrl + Spacebar and Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar:
Ctrl + Spacebar just maximises area and Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar maximises area and hides headers \ footers \ sidebars \ toolbars \ statusbar:
Thanks for clearing that up. Ctrl+alt+space is new to me. As well as the revelation that there is a menu option for it 
I’m so use to using the hotkeys that I forget these settings are available as menu options. 
You are probably right I have no idea why I always hit del as well
