Hello fellow blenderartists. I’m daring myself to post a project I’m working on here. The last one I started I never finished (maybe another time) because I ran into some problems and at the time I didn’t have the skills to complete it. Hopefully it will be different this time.
I’m modeling a 70s Nissan Skyline. It’s a personal project so I will work on it when I can. I’ve been doing Blender for a little over a year or so so I’m still fairly new but I feel like I’m learning every day. Right now it is fairly original, but I might add some body kit or styling when I’m done. I’m looking to do a series of different and cool renders with it when I’m done. I’ve been working on it for maybe 5 days or so.
Feel free to come with suggestions and stuff, just remember it’s still a WIP and things that are “complete” now might still be changed later. All the materials are only placeholders to make it easier to see reflections and how it looks with a bit of sorta-correct materials on it.
Enough boring talk, here are a few images. I will update the first post with the most recent full render as I continue to post. Here’s the newest ones.
Looking Fantastic dude, one thing i noticed, aren’t your indicators and light covers too transparent? Will you be putting sidewall writing on your tyres?
Thanks man! Yeah they probably are. The light details are probably some of the last things I’ll get to, but I will try to add a normal map or something to it so that it looks like proper light covers.
I’m in the process of adding textures to the tires right now, but I’m struggling with unwrapping the rim. It has such complex (maybe because of my shitty wireframe) layout I can’t get it to look nice and hide the seams.
edit: I still can’t get the UV’s on the rims correctly so I’ll just leave the dirt, scratches etc layers for another time. I threw on a quick sidewall texture just to get the look. When the time comes I’ll create my own so I get the highest of texture quality.
It looks better already tho.
edit 2:
Brake disc seems to be coming to place. caliper next!
wow you work fast, or I’m just too slow…one more thing about the tyres, they are currently too “glossy” rubber has a more flat finish, and bring your sidewall writing in a little bit, meaning more center to the sidewall or closer to the actual rim, I sell tyres by trade so i look at these things every day XD, the Caliper is very rough it looks like you’ve been driving with metal brake shoes.
Haha. I don’t feel that fast really. Or when I do act fast I often have to go back and fix the things I rushed through.
I agree they might be to glossy, but I do like that sorta “oily” look some tires have, but I guess that’s more on the sidewall than on top so I might have to do that after a while. I tried tuning the glossy down, and it still works. I also scaled the UVs a bit so the sidewall writing is better. I’m taking your word for it since you, as you say, see these every day.
Yeah the caliper is way to rough. I’m currently working on the brakes. Should maybe work on the chassis a bit more (back of the car is nowhere near done), but I like doing this now. It’s hard getting the details down, but I think I can make it work after a while.
Materials in general are just quick and easy to see if the modeling is correct, but I do appreciate the feedback. Great to have in mind.
Looking good! Your calliper is too high, rotate it down a bit. I Googled 1970 nissan skyline brakes and found a pic, would post it but I’m on my phone so it’s a mission
Thanks! Yeah I know. Right now when I’m working on it it is completely horizonal, just rotated it a bit for the picture. Just about halfway done with the calipers.
Anyway, slow day today. Played around with Houdini FX for the first time, so not much time for the Skyline. Houdini wasn’t very fruitful for me, so I’m going back to the Skyline tomorrow before I leave for a couple of days.
Just started on the back of the car (was basically nothing there before today).
Also, small noisy bonus image of the inside view. Will be a fun comparison-picture for when I get the interiors done.
Starting to get most of the behind ready. Still a lot of tweaking to be done tho. I think the lights maybe a bit too tall. Something about the proportions back there seem a bit off. The rear was really tough to do right, with lots of small angles that are smooth and sharp at the same time. But the frame is there.
Leaving for a couple of days tomorrow, so will be quiet until sometime in the weekend.
