2.5 Screw Modifier tests

blender 2.5 recently got a nice new Screw modifier in trunk at around r27653.

Attached are a few simple tests.

Hey !

another non-intrusive bug - a paper cut by ubuntu standards -

Well, I’ll be darned. Back in the day we had to work to make things like that.

So, in the past I had to work really hard to make a rope. With the new screw modifier + a curve I made a rope in about 3 minutes - and that was learning the new tools.

@ LiquidApe - do you have a sample.blend of your rope ?

Though I don’t have the blend any-longer, I think it would not have been much help since I had to apply the modifiers at a couple points in order to fix the normals.

I’ll explain how I made it though and that might help more:

  1. Add a circle with 8 verts - like an octogon
  2. Duplicate it 4 times and place the flat edges of all the sides flush.
  3. Delete the Center verts and connect the outside verts - this would make it look like a clover.
  4. Use the spin modifier to make rope twist the way you want, then use the iterations to make the length you want.
  5. Apply the modifier
  6. ctrl-n to fix the normals
  7. Add a curve modifier to your rope and choose a curve for it to follow (I have the most trouble with the part…I just played with it for a bit till it fit.)
