Has it better UI performance? It could be because of no transparent menus or pie menus. I don’t know the draw code but sometimes transparency need it’s own draw call and could be responsible for small performance hits. But I dunno in this case.
I agree about Softimage, back when I did the first version I used the dark input color for numbers and text. Which IMO is good, there’s only contrast where you need it, you can very fast find a number input.
So if anyone wanna continue improve on it feel free, XSI is defunct nowdays so maybe there will be any XSI user that wants to continue the theme if they are nowdays using Blender?
I only used it for a short while then I had no access to a license. But I liked the very “middle gray” or neutral gray look of it. Felt like there where no color misrepresentation. But now days I tend to think the bit darker gray blender uses in default theme (close to marmoset toolbag) is pretty decent on that also.
But it would be cool if we had the ability to affect paddings and margins in the themes. But the theme config in user prefs would be so crowded with settings : /
Here’s the theme that I use, and so far it’s been popular with the professional crowd. I see quite a few that aren’t optimized for some of the lesser known parts of Blender, but this one’s been through the wringer.
Wow, you listed all my themes (I’m the creator of “Grey Orange”, “Momo”, “North” and “42”), I’m really pleased you like them. Here’s the link to my GitHub: https://github.com/TimoShch. There are always fresh versions of my themes there (except “42”).
@aermartin the link to sofimage theme is better than Blender’s Sofimage theme, but I think it should have more contrast, like darker outline of widgets and a little darker buttons.
@TimoShch thank you for such a good themes, But I suggest that you turn TOOL BUTTON to shaded one, a new Blender user may mistake Tool button with Radio buttons (even may pro), for example I took the @pitiwazou theme
and turned the Tool button to shaded and change the outline of it to green, also changed text size and some other tweak…, now it is much better and faster to catch the buttons.
Actually I did that for the sake of consistency: the whole interface is flat, there’s no single shaded element. Maybe I will make a shaded variant some day (I’m talking about “Grey Orange” theme, cause I’m using it almost exclusively).
@shylon yeah the colors are from xsi though, but it can be modified a bit. I wanted that soft look xsi has in its UI. But there are some limitations how far you can push a theme. It’s open for anyone to download and continue, I haven’t touched it since 2014 I think, and I am quite happy with the default design with minor tweaks.
Seems on latest blender build there is “North” theme, I should add that selecting 2 objects (shift + select) the first one is not clear whether it is still selected or not! so North theme may fix this.
TimoShch hi, great to see a healthy interest in themes, if your interested you could drop into irc freenode #blenderpython for a chat and work out your theme include & any help you gould guve with updates
