2.93.4 "Knife Project" not working

I use knife project often. I double checked my procedure in 2.92 - no problem. But when I try the same procedure in 2.93.4, I get an error message (see JPG).

Thanks for any clues.

The approach has changed.

  • First select the object to be cut.
  • Switch to edit mode
  • Select an object from outliner (+* ) to use for projection
  • Mesh → Knife Project
