2D Escape

Years ago, I did a pencil drawing of a Super Hero coming off of a comic book page. This is a variation on the same idea.

The robot was modeled in Blender and textured using Substance 3D painter. The brush was textured using Photoshop and Blender to project the text. I did NOT model the hands. These were purchased assets. I’m not quite there with modeling and rigging hands. I did tweak the textures a tiny bit.

The comic panels are NPR renders of various poses of the robot. The word balloons were made in PhotoShop. I decided to make the comic panels non-photo blue as if they still needed to be inked. Technically, they should be sketchier, but I felt that the NPR renders gave me that feel.

I included a turntable of the posed robot that includes clay, NPR, and fully textured versions.

Ultimately, I’d like to animate the robot coming entirely out of the page. But we will see how that goes.

Indeed very cool idea!
I like how it’s holding the brush like some kind of staff!

Thank You!

I’ve been looking for the original drawing that sparked the idea. If I find it, I will post it.

I found the old pencil drawing that inspired this. It’s so old it has started to yellow a little bit. Yikes!
