3 Mechanicals

I started with one, and I thought I finished it, then I realiezed I need another 2 of this guy, only with slight differences. The red one is the completed one, and I have another that is in the process of being built.

any comments are welcomed.

They are intesting!! Would be nice to see a more AA rendered version, some of the finer details were lost it seems. The texture your using for the gold piping seems to change depending on the pipe it’s on, some are horizontal and some are vertical, and that does not look very good. Also, it looks like parts of the bot look like they have nice working joints and then others sections just use the piping to hold it together and that doesn’t seem right either. Also, EVERYTHING is shiny, it’s nice to have some contrast between shiny and dull. Overall looks good though, keep it up!

Thanks

can you point me to where you see this? I can’t see anything wrong with the textures :o .

are you refering to the legs?

here is a pipeless version:

anyway, here is an AA version:

update:
the second robot is kinda ready:

I also changed some of the red and blue materials. I hate them :)… I want it to look more like a polished metal … :expressionless:

another thing that annoys me, and sorry that it doesn’t belong here, how do I mirror a group of objects, for example the arms should be mirrored all together, but when I apply it, it get all messed up.

Good work.
Regarding the mirroring thing, what is happening is each object is mirrored seperately. To mirror them all together:

Select all the objects you want to mirror.
Snap the cursor to them.
At the bottom of the 3d view, select 3d cursor for the pivot point.
Mirror them, they will pivot over the centre of the group and should mirror correctly.

I hope this works!

Nice mechs. Something about the render doesn’t fit right. Try using Oversampling (OSA).

thank you, worked perfectly, I think I just did’nt snap the cursor to them before :expressionless: and that was my problem. thank you.

AMT: I am using OSA=8 . (the first one don’t have it though, that’s why I uploaded it again in my next reply)

edit: almost forgot, I am thinking to go towards an animation of these, here are some experiments with the armatures (this time no OSA):

These are cool mechs. However, it’s difficult to judge the textures, cause they seem to rely heavily on reflection, but there’s nothing to reflect. I often had this problem while raytracing with POV-Ray. To solve this I suggest you add a background of some sort, for example one of the really great Free high resolution skymaps by M@dcow

thank you, I added some textures as you suggested, picked one of those beautifull skies, and found a road-texture.

I think it looks alot better, but still I think that the mechs’ materials are not realy as I want, I guess I’ll have to work on them a little further, figuring what I don’t like about them…

here is another small animation

I really suck at animations I guess
