3 Questions I cannot find an answer to

Hi I’ve been looking around for a while to try and find an answer to the following questions and im beginning to wonder whether the things I’m asking are just not possible.:frowning:
Any way here are the questions:

  1. Can you have two UV maps in one object e.g. one UV lay out for the body and another for the head even though it is only a single object.

  2. Can you effect the intensity of SSS with a grey scale map, like you can with Specularity and reflectivity.

  3. Can you set up a visual bone selector like Maxdon cinema 4D has. (a 2D picture which has hot spots that correspond to a certain bone)

Any help would be very much appreciated even if its just a clarification that it’s not possible.

Thanks
HD

Don’t know the answer to the rest.

As for :

>. Can you set up a visual bone selector like Maxdon cinema 4D has. (a 2D picture which has hot spots that correspond to a certain bone)

Not really, but you can use a second armature as the control armature, see the Ludwig rig and the Otto rigs (links in my “best of…” thread in my signature. You can then use custom objects to replace the bone shapes.

Mike

thanks i have done that in the past.
but it i realy like it in C4D and was just hopeing it may be possible in Blender,
oh well

edit
i think the SSS thing is possible in some other app’s, so if you know how to do it in blender that would realy help

Render man,

For #1 you can both assign a different texture for the head UVs as for the body, as well as have independent layouts for each. Additionally, you can have independent UV layers if you need (see the Mesh panel of the Editing buttons).

SSS is a new feature. Right now, no.

I don’t know exactly what you mean, but I think you can set it up easily with driven keys. (probably not quite as easy, but still works just fine)

  1. Are you talking about what we call weight painting? Where the bone affects the mesh deform by varying amounts along the length of the bone? If so, yes.

Apollos/Pseudonym:
Thanks for the info on UV’s I can’t believe I did not realize it.

It’s a shame about the SSS does any one know if there are any plans to add this ?

Papasmurf:
No bone weights is not what I mean, the visual bone selector in C4D is a feature that allows you to render a 2d image of your character then add hot spots to it; so that when you click over the arm or leg of your character on the 2D image it will automatically select the corresponding bone I.e. the leg or arm bone. It just makes it easier to select the bone you want. ( and before any one says it I know you can hide bones you don’t need)

Any way thanks every one for all your help, much appreciated.:wink:
