Which video card to buy rtx 3060 12 GB, 4060 8 GB?

When rendering a blender scene, if GPU memory is insufficient, rendering may become slow or impossible.
Neither- these are both bad cards. Get a 3090 Ti if you want something from the 30 line, it has 24 GB of VRAM.
4060 Will rendering and viewing be much faster? or is it better to wait and get a larger scale of work, but given the scale, I wouldnât want a slideshow in the viewport
budget is limited

I donât know what the estimated work scale will be, but I donât know how much performance difference the difference between 768 stream processors will be. ![]()

â» 8gb of Vram is not small, but it may not be at the level of smooth operation.
I would like to make animated films, concept art, as well as time and simulations, fvx, Houdini for the future, and for simulations I assume that more than 8 video memories are needed. thatâs why itâs hard for me to choose, I want to try a lot because I havenât decided on the direction yet
If the only choice possible are those, go for 3060 with 12GB VRAM
For general viewport, etc it wouldnât make much difference. For Cycles rendering, the 4060 would be faster (likely not by a huge amount, but still faster) until it runs out of VRAM. Then the 3060 would wipe the floor with it, assuming it doesnât run out of VRAM at 12GB.
As for simulations, well that all depends on what you are using to do them and if it supports GPU acceleration or not. If it doesnât, then the GPU wonât matter at all (the CPU does all the work) and if it does, then chances are the more VRAM the better.
If its the xx60 ballpark you are looking at, if you can push the budget a bit more and find a âreasonableâ priced 4060 Ti 16GB, then that would be the âbest of bothâ worlds. Giving even higher performance and a nice VRAM buffer for years to come.

I have some projects where my 2070Super cannot be used because it does not have enough ram so I render on CPU.
Grass, trees, HDR environment map, static and animated textures eat a lot of memory and if you are heavy in the detail, you render CPU.
If you plan to do cute low poly-ish Warcraft / mobile games style 3D models/scenes and animations I would go for 4060 8GB or even save one more month for a 4070.
If you plan to make Visual Effects (so realism is a thing) then go with 3060 at the crazy 12GB VRAM - 4GB is a lot of difference to be neglected. There are ways to render and work on big models with less Vram of course (you isolate them, in the scene or via different files that you âglueâ them in the end) which means that the 4060 can also be put to use. You must be more smart on how you work.
I spent 2 months to bring down a 3,2 GB blender file to 2,5GB. I worked every now and then but I got there, just so I can render the scene on a 8GB Ram laptop. I did it and I am proud but it is for me :)) a hobby just like any other. food for the soul.
So you have 4 choices:
- lower the mesh size + textures => render fast a lot â 4060
- be less focused on the scene budged (statistics) and work faster â 3060 12GB
- Work more and be focused on budget, and have a good GPU for any modern day game â 4060
- Work twice as much (like a big studio) with assets in different files, rendered separately and compile them all in composite later â keep whatever GPU you have⊠or buy a used 1080.
