Hullo,
“Put on a VR headset, jump on a playground swing, and take flight!”… Studio Go Go is making 3D content for rides and we need a 3D Animator-generalist with an exciting portfolio, and a working knowledge of industry production pipelines.
This project is suitable for an individual or micro studio. You will be using existing Synty asset packs to provide 95% of content required to create 150 second of 3D animation. Your output will be rendered using DaVinci Resolve. Your output will be two videos (stereo: left eye and right eye cameras, which we will give technical assistace with).
Music and sound FX will be created by an audio artist (must use FMOD). This will most likely be in post-production, but could be integrated with objects in the scene. Let me know if there’s ayone you’d like to recommend (separate budget)
You will receive from us:
- storyboard.
- fixed camera track with animation timeline.
- grey-boxed environment.
Even though we want to achieve a low-poly aesthetic, we need you to bring cinematic qualities via the use of fog, specular, volumetric lighting, particle systems, and other FX. We love the 16-bit style of Auburn Hodgson
Our low-poly aesthetic will be “paper models”. We’d like you to follow this pipeline - based on geometry nodes - to modify all Synty assets. We plan to explore this pipeline ourselves in-house, so we may be able to supply you with a sample scene.
Your rigging and animation of synty assets and characters should use standard well documented approaches. We want to exploit as many prefab assets as possible.
You need to come from a cinematic, story telling background: e.g. animation, game trailers, VFX. You need to know how to bring magic to a complete animation (NB: if the focus of your portfolio is mainly character or product animation, or VR / gamining interaction, you may not be right for us).
The animated camera motion you receive is already programmed to make riders feel like their performing all sorts of unusual movements: flapping wings like a bird, bouncing like a ball, undulating like a jelly fish, or walking like a robot.
Our camera tracks can cover up to 1.5km (1500 Unity units), depending on how fast we travel. Therefor a working knowledge of clever tiling, procedural generation may be an advantage to reduce your workload (NB: rider’s mainly look straight ahead when riding, which can be useful when planning levels of detail).
Up until now, we’ve made CG content that’s been generated in real-time on mobile VR headsets (see examples: VOLO, VR Twister, and VR Playground). Hugely popular, but so hard to make! However…
…we’re SUPER EXCITED to be developing our own ride-synchronised media player. This means we can play pre-rendered video content. We’re no longer restricted by a headsets GPU power. Our aim is to create a production pipeline to make many 3D animation shorts, at low cost (hence Synty assets), but with a perceived high quality.
You will be working on our first project, which we hope will be the start of a longer-term relationship.
We plan to create three (3) x 150second 3D animations, all different Synty themes. We want to confirm:
- what is creatively and technically possible
- that riders love what we’re making.
- that you like working with us, and we like working with you.
For future animations (from 4 onwards) there may be options to include financial bonuses - to be negotiated - if we get good feedback from riders. However, at this stage, you will be committing to produce the first three animations at a fixed cost for each. We will review after the first animation, when either party can walk-away. But we’re really hoping you’ll become part of the Studio Go Go family.
We’re based in London, UK, with an office in India. You could be anywhere in the world!
The following fees exclude 3rd party assets which will either be provided / bought for you, or reimbursed to you.
3D Animation 1: £2,750
3D Animation 2: £2,750
3D Animation 3: £2,750
3D Animation 1 will be: briefed by 1st December 2024. Final outputs delivered by you on or before15th January 2025. There is no flexibility in this schedule. We will have weekly meetings to check progress, and assist where we can.
Timelines for other animations after this will be confirmed.
You will assign to Studio Go Go copyright in all new works and any combined 3rd party rights used to create the work. You will supply Studio Go Go with digital copies of all projects and assets used to create the animations. We’d love you to used 2D versions of these animations for your own public portfolio once we’ve publicly launched, or after 9 months after your delivery (whichever is first).
Let me know if you have questions. Please send information about yourself and links to examples of your work.
Thanks,
Brendan
