I’m not on macOS anymore, shifted back to a Windows PC in 2019, so I can’t help you, sorry. I’d suggest asking here. Maybe there’s a 3D-Coat user on macOS there.
Less than 12 hours to go for 3DCoat 2024 and 3DCoatTextura Summer Sale! https://pilgway.com/store
There are some issues about workflow, that is not as easy and fast as small programs like Magica CSG for example, when using “click to place” adding primitives or custom objects.
- There is no “camera view” gizmo for primitives, only the local object transforms gizmos ( only the cube primitive has the view transform gizmos )
On the example below to move capsule to middle of existing model is hard as you have to play with two gizmos axis while it would been fast and easy if there was a “view move” gizmo.
- It’s worse for custom models, because there no object local transform gizmo neither view transform gizmos for custom objects ? ? ?
Using “click to place” you can’t adjust anything.
Woulld like to have camera view gizmos available for all objects when using “click to place” to enhance a lot workflow becoming lot more artists friendly and less “CAD” like.
When will the applink in extensions actually work for 4.2
No module named ‘io_COAT3D’
Seems to have been an issue since July.
There seems to be a work around in this thread https://3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30602-fixed-blender-42-applink-not-working/#comment-195771
But one would hope that the standard extensions download would work eventually.
As Dalai informed me, the standard will be removed on future Blender versions.
This is the current repository for version 4.2+
- Remember that 3DC autoinstall the applink on every update.
That twitter/X website links to Running Up That Hill from Kate Bush and David Gilmour.
Is this instead the correct repo?
Must be that one, it just works.
The Xitter post wasn’t related to the topic at all so it must’ve been the wrong link on the clipboard or something.
I just don’t get why it won’t be updated in Extensions?

3DCoat-2024-28
- Fixed problem of “Import for vertex painting/Sculpt” - some meshes was broken. In addition AppLink may drop the model to the Import tool instead of making the new surface object.
Deleting the python 3.8.10 folder in 3dcoat folder seems to let the newest version launch for whatever reason
Cool. Is this a new feature in the latest beta versions?
Hey it’s up and running now ?
So exciting to see.

I have been working with digital scanning and 3d modeling for several years now. It’s a fantastic tool but my traditional modelling and sculpting skills have never felt more vital or more needed. To utilize all of this and bring it together to create high quality data and assets still takes a lot of work. Right now at least I don’t see it changing too much.
Anyway who the hell knows longer term. We see. But right now digital scanning is certainly a welcome tool and technique that complements the others and not yet a magic wand. Although in itself it is quite magical. I love it. The great thing about seeing this functionality in 3d Coat is that there is already an advanced asset creation pipeline there. So a complete end to end system.
Yes, it is
Reality Capture doesn’t show up ?
- Open the Extensions window and make sure the Reality Capture module checkbox is checked, it will launch the module when 3dcoat starts.

Has there been any progress on a Mac Silicon version? Last time I checked on the Coat fora there was a problem with some libraries and it was going to be a a major endeavor to convert them. Until they manage to get the Silicon version out I’m no longer interested.
Good question, I’d like to know about that too.
“3DCoat 202x” on Apple Silicon has been working for quite some time.
The only culprit is the AngelScript library, which creates dialogs in “3DCoat 202x”.
“3DCoat 202x” has been linked against AngelScript 2.36.1, which is not working on Apple Silicon.
The newer AngelScript 2.37.0, which supports Apple Silicon based on its description, contains many compilation errors under Xcode that I could not fix because of its count.
Therefore, we decided to get rid of AngelScript.
One of our programmers already created a routine for conversion scripts from AngelScript to Python.
As soon as he converts all the scripts in “3DCoat 202x,” I will build it for Apple Silicon.

Some functions seem to be dependent on NVIDIA CUDA though, such as the new photogrammetry function. Will that be converted to Metal too?
