3D-Coat normal painting?

With the new GLSL normal mapping in the viewport, wouldn’t it be cool if we could enhance the painting mode to allow painting normal maps?

Something like 3D-Coat?

Yeah, I heard talk about this in a different thread. Sounds like a very useful feature for sculpt mode; you could dramatically cut down on your poly count.

If you play around with baking normals from hi-res to low-res models you can really see how this is helpful.

My workflow would be something like sculpt high ploy model, and bake to a low poly model. This gives the basic form.
Then load the low poly model with normal map, and turn on GLSL. Go into paint mode, and add the ultra high details which combines over the original normal map.
