3D Cursor keeps snapping to nearest vertex

I’m pretty sure that I accidentally pushed some weird hotkey that I don’t know how to undo. Now my 3d cursor is acting very weird. Whenever I click somewhere, it appears to move to where it should. However, if I’m clicking inside a mesh, the cursor actually moves parallel to the direction of the viewport (so I can’t tell that it has moved) to line up with the nearest vertex to where I clicked.

For instance, If I center the cursor, and set the view to front (numpad 1), the 3d cursor’s y position should stay at 0 as i click around the viewport. And it does, as long as I don’t click inside the mesh.

So my question is, “what did i do, and how can I fix it?” Additionally, I’d love to know if there is an easy way in Blender to see if you’ve changed something like this, so if it happens again with some different hotkey putting me in some different state that I don’t want to be it, I don’t have to try to guess the name of the thing I’ve done or ask on a forum to be able to undo it.

I would attach a blend file, but i don’t know if it would help, since this is happening even when i restart blender and click around the default cube.

Huh. It appears the setting is under
user preferences -> interface -> cursor depth

and it appears that the factory setting is to snap to the surface of the model. I’m not sure why my setting was previously different, but that does explain why “Load Factory Settings” didn’t fix it.

Hello,

Have you tried this?

  1. Help
  2. Splash Screen
  3. Interaction
  4. Blender

this too -

  1. Pressing Spacebar Key.
  2. snap cursor to center.
  3. Enter Key.

If it doesn’t, then this one -

  1. File
  2. Load Factory Settings

that’s it

Warning - This is remove any setting to rendering/addons/interactions/input you’ve made to blender, and you’ve to redo them.
Hope this Helps.

Best Regards,
