3D interpretation of the 1997 Moon Child game character sprite

A cartoon-style 3D model of my 1997 Moon Child Windows platform game character, which went viral on Bluesky in April 2026. :slightly_smiling_face:

Modeled and colored in SDF Modeler, then ported to Blender for materials, lighting and rendering using Cycles.

Here’s an impression in SDF Modeler’s real-time editor, simple shading without matcap:

At first I took modeling too far, resulting in a “Moon Adolescent”…

:inbox_tray: Get the Blender file containing both models (“Moon Child 3D models…”) here.

Here’s a compilation of screenshots from our Moon Child game, featuring my pixel graphics, made in Deluxe Paint on an Amiga:

Since Moon Child went viral on Bluesky, lots of fan art has been created. Here’s a tiny selection:

By Cytric Acid on Bluesky, also featuring my Hoi character from our Amiga game of the same name..

By Rambleprism on Bluesky.

By Very Small Skeleton on Bluesky.

By Scott W. on Bluesky, also featuring my Hoi character from our Amiga game of the same name.

If you’d like to play Moon Child, this is the preferred version (the “Friend Edition”). Have fun!
