3D Marble Run | University Project

Hello!

I wanted to share a side project I’ve been working on this semester for my CGI II university class.

We were tasked by our professor with creating a marble run, so I did a deep dive into Houdini. I quickly learned that creating a satisfying and visually appealing marble run was much harder than I had expected.

The simulation was created entirely in Houdini, while the rendering was done in EEVEE. In total, I simulated and exported over 8,000 frames from Houdini.

Honestly… just go for it!! It is so much more fun and way harder than one anticipates!
I was really so close to just quitting because of the problems I had in Houdini, but the moment I realized I was finished, I just sat there and watched it loop for at least 20 minutes straight.
Truly a mesmerizing experience to build it entirely and see it being “alive”

Quick question to anyone reading this:
How many balls were lost on camera in the whole 2 minute simulation? There are a few more than the obvious ones :eyes:

I made lots of awesome Marble Runs with the Alan Luk’s Marble Run Kit.
