Here is a real basic design for a gunblade, if I was to have one myself. This is based off weapons from Final Fantasy VIII with a custom futuristic touch. This was also a texture and UV practice project so I didn’t focus that much on design here. I will be making some changes and adding it in a scene soon. But here is the current result rendered in Blender Internal.
Dude! That is one sweet texture! Any normal maps?
Yea, I Normal Mapped the sword with holes and sctraches. Also the Handle with leather normal/bump maps. The rest are just materials and shaders.

So, what technique did you use to create the normal map for the blade? I have always wondered how to make normal maps with this fine detail.
When I first attempted the texture, it looked really crappy. Then I realized in order for a texture to have great detail, it may need to be bigger. So I moved from a 1024 x 1024 px map, to a 3000 x 3000 px map. That alone made a great difference.
So a hi resolution normal map is the key?
That was the key for me. Give it a shot.
Thanks for the heads up man! Once again, nice model!
