A Candy Bar I Made. What more can I do?

I wanted to make this as realistic as possible but that seemed to falter.

Here is what I tried.

  1. For texturing, I added a Clearcoat in the Principled BSDF node and adjusted the Clearcoat Roughness.

  2. Used an HDRI, Some gradient planes, and a Bounce Light (plane) for natural lighting.

  3. Sculpted the sides of the mesh to make it look more natural.

What am I missing to make my render photorealistic?

For starters the images are totally flat. You should represent the package in more natural angles to show how it really looks.

Change also lighting setup, add some variation to light/shadow.

I think your on the right track, but the main things that are holding back are, the lighting and design.

The lighting looks super flat and lack any real interest.
(I found this video super useful for a basic product photography setup, he explains it all really well! https://youtu.be/dPLNNlL3OIw?si=GXSdiGdhDa7aoENU )
Your roughness is also way to high for a metallic wrapper, it also lacks the distinctive creases and folds as well!

With the design of the packaging, have a look at some actual chocolate bars and see if you can copy elements off there. Even just some basic typography and colour theory would go a long way to elevate the realism.

I think the basics are all there, it’s just that final 10% getting the presentation down that’s really gonna sell it!

I will be honest. After I posted, I had a facepalm moment. When I started looking at my reference image, I forgot to add the creases and folds. After that, I forgot that there was a glossy BSDF node that I could use. As for the lighting, I did not want to overcomplicate things, so I decided to stick with a basic usual 3-point lighting scene setup.

All that being said, I watched the video. It makes a lot of sense now, thank you.

Would it be too complicated to add the extra plastic where the length of the wrapper is sealed like the ends?

And maybe see what what a darker brown outline for ‘COCA’ does for the look. Darker as in near black.

Suppose I could add a normal map to make the folds on the back. Thats a good point.

what was your reference?

Just a random Crunch Bar image from google. Front and Back View.

can you show it to me? then I could think about what it would take to recreate it.

Sure.

in this case, i would probably just play around with the metallic value, roughness and bump/normal map. a medium contrast studio hdri from poly haven should be enough as a light source.
for the values mentioned above you can use noisetexture, which you can distort with various transoform nordes to achieve the desired effect. that would be my first thought and that’s how i would try it.

Yeah. That’s probably what I would do to. I would probably include a Glossy BSDF node and I should be good to go after some better label design.
