At the beginning of the game, Bowser unearths the princess’s castle from its resting place and lifts it high into the sky using the power of the Star Rod, which he successfully stole from the seven stars charged with its protection and whom use its power to grant the wishes of the people.
This piece is a recreation of that scene from the game (reference photo included) re-worked with my personal style. Pikachu and Bulbasaur are placeholder graphics (old hand-painted works of mine) for Mario and Peach, haha. I wanted to ensure I understood how to properly render 2D images with transparency into the scene.
I really wanted to challenge myself; I have been learning a lot about the various disciplines of digital media over at cgcookie and I decided that I wanted to work on a project that challenged me to spend time in areas where I was uncomfortable and inexperienced. After a fair amount of deliberation, I decided that rendering a full scene in Blender, which used hand-painted textures would be a great way to test my skillset as a whole in large,
actually its a nice idea , you need to lower the rez of our textures if you ever want to achive the old games vibe thing, yours just looks very detaild
Thanks for taking the time to pass along your input! I agree with you, but I am not trying to retain the retro look; I am in simply recreating the scene. I want to experiment using this diorama type approach to games in Unity. Are you a Unity user?
yeah thank you, i i tryd that, before
unity 5 is just to powerfull to run on my pc for the moment,
till i get a now pc i cant use it ,which i am not sure when will that be
The placeholders have been removed from the scene and placed on a separate layer in the blend file. In this update, I have included the candle, a hand-painted texture for the window frame, and an atmospheric backdrop to be viewed through the window.
WHAT’S NEXT?
I still have to hand-paint Mario and Peach and place them into the scene. I will also need to decide whether or not to create a toad-head decal for the candle stands as depicted in the reference image, and whether to add trim to the castle wall wallpaper. Finally, I will need to create a hand-painted texture for the plants in the foreground to wrap it all up!
